“GENTES GUERNIKA GLOBAL” – Opening Saturday 16th November at 6pm.

Art installation at the Bono Art Gallery
16th November – 16 December.

Germain Diez 3

Spanish Artist German Diez will be creating an art installation of thousands of individually crafted clay faces, contorted in agony as were the protagonists in Picasso’s masterpiece of 1937 “Guernica”.

The creation of this work will form the basis of a film by Jose Luis. This installation will be open to the public at the Bono Art Gallery on Courthouse Street in Otley, from 16th November – 16th December.

Germán Díez tells us “In 2013 Guernica is as the whole world ,and the majority of
its inhabitants, the majority of us people, can be annihilated at any moment, when it’s necessary for them, we are in the hands of the money masters blinded by their desire to possess more and more, accumulating until it’s absurd.”

The Installation will commence on the 12th November and German will be available to discuss his work with the media before opening to the public on the 16th.

Quote from the Artist’s friend, Spanish Writer Manolo Montergudo Lopez
“Life is impossible whilst crossing forbidden borders, when the water has run out, when you have only a bit of fruit left, your shoes are broken, the doors close on you and you are suspected by everyone, when you cry and are so far away, when you fall ill and can’t get treatment, when you are queuing up for the dole or for food, when you see the queues of poverty knowing you are not far
from those sacrificed beings who have already been bombed by hunger and poverty.

The new old war.

Money is power and glory. And everyone wants it All. They want all the blood in the world, the broken hands, thirst, the skin off their back. They want it all at whatever price. They will fill up their own already full storehouses before thinking about you. Not all the money in the world will stop them.”

Quote from Otley based artist David Veron.
“The Installation contains a powerful message of the Artist’s view of today’s society. German borrows the pathos from Picasso’s Masterpiece, Geurnica. The thousands of individually crafted clay faces, are contorted in an expression of their angst. This metaphor contains a power that reaches the darkest places in the human-psyche, and challenges the viewer to seek an alternative path for mankind. It is only through his close links with gallery owner and fellow international artist Roberto Bono, that Otley has become the current venue for this far reaching piece of work. It is both inspiring in it’s beauty, and thought provoking in it’s melancholy.”
